I think the major thing that GMA has over ABS-CBN is that GMA seems to have a more cohesive strategy with its shows, specially in promoting them. (cross-show plugging, themes that are consistent with their respective sponsors, etc.)When I watch GMA, i feel that everything seems to fit into something that has been planned well. For ABS, i don't know. I don't see the same synergy in their shows.
I remember what Korina said about ABS-CBN's fall from grace: when it happened, it happened all across the grid. I agree, and if they're planning to take the crown back, they can't just pull it off with a one-time flick (specially if most of those flicks are foreignovelas). You'd have to bring everything across the board. I know, i know, that's easier said than done, and I barely know what's really happening inside ABS-CBN's war room, or whatever strategy they're brewing in there. (I sure hope that there is one)
Anyway, I once read someone say:

it's not how much you spent on a show, or the effects you used, or its promotion. just give us viewers a new story, a good story, one that is not hackneyed or redone to the point of exhaustion (eg. nagkapalit na babies, etc.). kung magnanakaw na lang from other sources, at least try to steal something new and fresh.
but then if you steal it, that means it's no longer new and fresh.

ReplyDeleteAbout the shows we all know that ABS-CBN produces better teleseryes and even comedy shows. I don't know about the rest. I am not a tv addict. As for Chinovelas/Koreanovelas, well, ABS-CBN was the first and it was really a hit. In fact theirs are still hits. Should I say that GMA's Sweet 18 is an admission that Lee Donggun is so popular? They got that from Lovers in Paris and Stained Glass.

On Anne ang Angel, well Anne is a better actress compared to Heart (hey Jam!) and Angel has nothing to boast since Anne is so damn good and yes, more beautiful. Anne definitely improved when she got out of GMA.
About the shows we all know that ABS-CBN produces better teleseryes and even comedy shows.

As for the chinovelas,don't be too carried away, remember that what our local stations just do is buy the rights to play them. Yes, if they chose the right foreignovela, they will rake ratings. But that's exactly my point -- you can't pin the hopes (or majority of it)of your station on just being a good scout of foreignovelas... at least not in the context of our local tv scene. Because the other station can easily do that too. Do you think that Lee Donggun and the producers of his show really if care if it's GMA or ABS that's buying (and showing) their shows? I don't think so.

I have nothing against GMA. In fact they have better animes than ABS-CBN. However, there were instances wherein they just repeat what has been shown.
Remember Gimik and TGIS? I was angry at ABS-CBN then because they just sort of "imitated."
On news and current affairs, I say ABS-CBN is better.
But on noontime shows, nothing beats Eat Bulaga.
There are a lot of factors to be considered and sometimes one beats the other, so there is room for improvement.
But my main point is that, they should stop dubbing animes and cartoons in Filipino. They should also increase shows which use English. The children today have poorer English language skills. Unless they've got cable.
That's because they hire surveyors which are biased.

Here's a question for you: If you honesty believe that GMA's being number 1 is based on a biased viewership data (and ABS-CBN knows about it), do you think that the they would just let GMA get away with that, and their Kapuso, number 1 tayo campaign?
Or do you think they'd reformat most of their shows?
You would find this hard to believe, but I am an ABS-CBN fan. I don't know, maybe it's a case of a first come first network to fall in love with kind of thing, coz I watched ABS-CBN first as a kid even before i knew of GMA's existence. But I do know a winning strategy when I see one. Again, i'm impressed by GMA's.
Maybe we should not fall into the trap of lumping all the shows together and decide who's the collective winner. It should be a show per show basis. But if you would allow me, - MOST of the shows in GMA are winning. And that shouldn't come as a surprise. A network would use its best shows to generate viewership for their lesser ones. That's what I meant by a good cross-show plugging strategy.
Aren't you wondering why Joey de Leon is seen all over GMA shows?
Btw, i didn't see your main point coming. I have nothing against that. :p

ReplyDeleteBTW, some ads were already pulled off from scandalous tv shows, I've read in the Philippine Star. That is definitely good.

ReplyDeletePangit yang anne you. Reject lang yan ng gma. La na bang talent ang abs maliban lang sa hamak na reject na Anne nyo. Bleh No. 2 lang abs in the whole philippines. Dito sa Cebu napakalakas ng gma. Cebu, Davao and Iligan comprosing only 6 AND 1 % IN THE WHOLE TV RATING NATIONWIDE. Bakit di nyo tanongin ang neilsen kung sino talaga ang no. 1.

ReplyDeletei don't believe that GMA is #1 here in Cebu, infact seldom you would see and hear people talking about GMA's shows. And regarding Anonymous' statement that Anne is dumped from GMA, why, didn't you know that Angel also came from ABS before then? Angel was not recognized in ABS because she has been overlaped by the talents in KAPAMILYA. aNGEL just then became GMA's fav because they had lesser talents, and I mean real "TALENT", than ABS does. Anne transferred to ABS maybe because she felt that there was no challenge if she would continue her carrier there...
